"…in search of the miraculous”: an introduction to Pierre Henry: The Liverpool Mass

For Pierre Henry, The Liverpool Mass at the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral has “become something of a musical myth”, after he was unable to perform the piece for the inaugural mass as intended. Ahead of the performance on Sat 13 May, Bluecoat artistic director Bryan Biggs has said a few words about how this myth came to be, and what we can expect when we hear this piece, 50 years later than originally intended.

What to expect this season with Bluecoat

It's been a busy start to our 300th anniversary celebrations, and as we begin to take down the work of the 106 artists involved in Public View, our Chief Executive Mary Cloake wanted to tell you what you can expect from the next three months of our ambitious programming. There is a lot of things to experience and ways to get involved at Bluecoat over the next few months, from exhibitions, events, collaborations and through our My Bluecoat project. Find out more below.

Geoff Travis, Rough Trade, and the Culture of Independence.

On Fri 5 May we will be joined by Rough Trade records founder Geoff Travis for a discussion on the culture of independence. Sam Turner, part of the team at Bido Lito! who invited Travis to talk in Liverpool, has provided us with the blog below allowing us an insight into what we can expect from the event, how it came about, and why this discussion feels particularly relevant in Liverpool today.

New opportunities for artists

Bluecoat is pleased to announce two new opportunities for artists: the Granby Winter Garden commission in partnership with Granby Four Streets Community Land Trust, and a year-long Studio Bursary at The Royal Standard in partnership with Bloomberg New Contemporaries for one of their 2010-2016 alumni.

Young Fest returns to Bluecoat

Young Fest returns to Bluecoat, Sat 22 & Sun 23 April, for a weekend of physical theatre inspired performances and workshops. We invited the team behind Young Fest, Tmesis Theatre, in for a conversation, in order to learn a little about physical theatre, about what you can expect from the festival, and why family friendly art festivals are so important.
