The members of the Collective Encounters: Theatre of the Third Age arrive in good spirits for their Bed-In, which slightly belies the message they are going to be spreading with their piece ‘The Peace Monologues’ which will see them recounting their personal experiences of conflict, these experiences ranges from the Falkland’s War to the Miners’ strike, all of which has shaped their desire for peace.
Looking back on it this was one of the Bed-In’s which made me nervous, it has nothing to do with the content or the message of the Bed-In. It has more to do the fact that two of members of the New Life Collective are heavily pregnant and very close to their dues dates, well I had to wonder about the possibility of the first baby to be born in The Bluecoat.
If you visited the Bed-In today you will have found “three wise monkeys”.....Mary, Dave and Michael from Khedrup Je Study Centre, Liverpool, participating in their very own “Buddhist BED-IN”.
It’s a Bed-In kick off today! As Liverpool and Everton go through there pre match warm ups before they meet each other on the football pitch, Paul Aman is going through his own pre match warm up before entering the bed. Pauls warm up may not be as intense as the two derby teams, involving as it does the drinking of tea and the placing of the Mersey Marauders FC banners.
Dressed in the appropriate bed time attire vest, boxers, hat, Chuck Perkins the poet from New Orleans takes to the bed. He soon begins to welcome the groups of curious bystanders, sharing his love of lost jazz pioneers and the works of Tom Robbins and many Mardi Gras trinkets. Answering questions, which range from the fate of his hometown after Katrina to the buyout of Liverpool FC with a relaxed air.
