Bed-In at the Bluecoat: Purlesque - Give Purl A Chance

Knit one, Pearl one, drop in….and give Purl a Chance!

The Purlesque knitting circle are getting in the bed today, before they do say they set about decorating the space with cheerful bunting, balls of wool and various knitted objects including knitted cakes and of course what would a plate of knitted cakes would be without a lovely pot of knitted tea.

As the first two members kick of their shoes and start on the first squares of the Peace Blanket they attend to make throughout the day. Soon they are joined by other members who jump in the bed and set about with clicking needles making individual squares. They sit in the bed cheerfully chatting away not only making a woolly peace offering but also creating a sense of a close knit (sorry) community in the bed.

This is not closed off community, as people pass by the bed they are attracted to the activity in the bed, but they are willing to share their memories of parents and grandparents and the objects created in the medium of wool. It makes me think about how knitting in a sense can be a giving act. Think about how many woollen booties, scratchy jumpers or cosy winter scarves have been created as an act of love, and who can argue that doesn’t make the place a slightly better place?
