Lord Mayor congratulates Bob and Joan Porter on 20 years at the Bluecoat

Lord Mayor Councillor Sharon Sullivan visited us tonight to congratulate engraver Bob Porter and his wife Joan on 20 years work at the Bluecoat.

Bob was born in Anfield and later attended Gateacre Comprehensive. He first started work as an apprentice engraver and silversmith aged 16 with Williams and Brothers on Dale Street.

Shortly after completing his apprenticeship, Bob founded his own business and had various premises in Liverpool, before settling at the Bluecoat in 1992.

Bob, who is also a qualified jeweller, completes all his engraving by hand, favouring traditional hand engraving tools over electric tools.

He has a loyal base of customers and has worked on an array of corporate and personal work during his time at the Bluecoat. Highlights include being on hand, for the last five years, to engrave all of the trophies from the winning line at the Aintree Grand National. And he also engraved the Premier League football trophy between 2003 and 2008. In 2006, Bob was commissioned to re-engrave all of the previous winners on the Football League Cup.
