Do you love story time? The Bluecoat literature programme and The Reader Organisation have joined up to bring a summer-long season of storytelling to Liverpool’s children. Each Sunday in July and August, there will be a half-hour of storytelling in the company of one of the lovely Reader volunteers. From classic tales to modern favourites, each session will welcome youngsters to magical worlds and imaginary friends.
‘Get Into Reading’, The Reader Organisation’s outreach project, runs more than seventy reading groups across Merseyside and develops reading for pleasure. As a creative reading initiative, what ‘Get Into Reading’ does is different: books and poems are read aloud; experiences are shared; communities are built; and books are brought to life. There have been over 10,000 individual experiences of ‘Get Into Reading’ in the last year, a figure that reflects the beneficial nature of shared reading. The Reader Organisation believes that the best thing to offer future generations is the brilliant ancient technology that is: the story!
