Come along and hear from two exciting new talents from Liverpool. Jennie Rooney and Carol Fenlon have both published debut novels in the last year, both of which have met with huge acclaim. Jennie Rooney’s novel, Inside the Whale, is funny and tragic in equal measure. It unravels the hidden past of its characters and is an unforgettable debut from a new young talent.
Rooney .. is fresh, funny and wise, balancing the emotional turmoil with a vivid turn of phrase. Hugely enjoyable. – Marie Claire
Carol Fenlon lives in Skelmersdale and published her first novel, Consider the Lilies, at the age of 60. The novel developed from Fenlon’s research on feral children while studying at Edge Hill University. It was awarded the Impress Prize for New Writing in 2007. Consider the Lilies is a dark and unique exploration of a world without language.
Haunting and beautifully crafted. Ms Fenlon has a unique voice and her writing deserves national attention – Impress Prize Committee
