Get down to the Bluecoat for a weekend drawing extravanganza - sketching, scribbling, illustrating, doodling, drafting and much more. You are invited to explore different approaches to drawing, find out how and why artists draw, and have a go yourself
There are workshops, demonstrations, computer drawing, life drawing, films, talks, exhibitions and a live drawing performance over three days, all set against the backdrop of The End of the Line: Attitudes in Drawing.
You can just turn up to most events, which are free unless indicated otherwise.

End of the Line: Attitudes in Drawing

A major exhibition in the Bluecoat’s beautiful new galleries, The End of the Line: Attitudes in Drawing features international artists who create some of the most innovative drawing today.
Exhibition Tours

Special tours of the exhibition given by jeweller Antony Wong on Fri, Sara-Jayne Parsons, Exhibitions Curator at the Bluecoat on Sat, and Bryan Biggs, Artistic Director at the Bluecoat on Sun.

Fun family activities suitable for children of all ages. Try out the materials and techniques used by the artists in The End of the Line including animation, chalk pavement art, waxed drawings and plenty more.

Mark Kyffin, one of the architects from Austin-Smith: Lord involved in the Bluecoat building project talks about the role of drawing in designing buildings.
Introduction to life drawing with Ben Egerton

Artist Ben Egeron leads this open session. Come and learn how to draw from the life model.
Shine Exhibition
11.00am – 4.00pm
An exhibition of drawings by young people who have taken part in drawing masterclasses with artists from The End of the Line in response to the exhibition. A video of the work produced in schools as part of the Shine project will be shown in Upstairs at the Bluecoat restaurant bar.
Drop-in Drawing Workshop with Bernadette O’Toole

Try your hand at the drawing techniques used by artists in The End of the Line, led by Bernadette O’Toole.
Neil Keating Interactive Illustration Demonstration

Meet illustrator John McNally and see how he creates intricate digital artwork using a laptop and graphics tablet.
Mark Anstee video Drawing On Glass 2008
Every day, 10.00am – 6.00pm
Video capturing thousands of passing visitors watching Mark Anstee make live drawings in public museums and galleries.
Claire Weetman Performance Drawing
Sat & Sun, 11.00am – 5.00pm
A camera placed in the window of the Tyson Smith Studio will film the public as they walk along College Lane – this will be projected onto paper, where Claire will create a drawing in response to the movement of figures as they pass by.
Stephen Walter Liverpool 08-09
Every day 10.00am – 6.00pm
See Stephen Walter’s incredibly intricate ‘map’ of Liverpool. The map is geographically accurate but intertwines text, personal stories and snippets from Liverpool’s local history.

Everyday 11.00am – 4.00pm
Curated by artists working from studios at the Bluecoat, an exhibition responding to the theme of drawing, taking place in one of the Bluecoat’s former barber shop on School Lane.
Sally Booth: meet the artist

Sally Booth is this year’s Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary recipient, and recently completed a three-month residency at the Bluecoat, during which she concentrated on drawing
