What's happening: Saturday 9 January 2010
Janek Schaefer with Philip Jeck and Vasco Alvo
Date: Saturday, 09 January 2010 | 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Location: Performance Space
Ticket Prices: £7 / 5
British composer of the year, musician and sound artist Janek Schaefer compliments his retrospective at the Bluecoat with this special concert of Phoenix & Phaedra holding patterns, a found sound play for 9 portable radios, Indian Drone Box and 4 loudspeakers. Schaefer’s evocative live sound environments explore the spatial and architectural aspects of sound, making him one of the most compelling composers of our time. Sharing the bill are two artists chosen by Schaefer: international artist, friend and some-time collaborator Philip Jeck, and installation artist and musician Vasco Alvo.
Philip Jeck turns records and players salvaged from junk shops into musical instruments, creating intensely personal soundscapes that evolve over his sets to render a moving and transfixing music.
Vasco Alvo will be playing his AM/FM Keyboard 6, a 6-note keyboard that plays 6 individually tuneable radios. Through real time sampling, improvisation and cacophony, Alvo captures the beauty of unpredictability.
