A phantasmagoria of conspiracy theories, propaganda, science, art and politics. Truth and fantasy divide and collide in this day of talks, screenings and performances curated by international artist and researcher, Dr Bill Aitchison who headlines with his groundbreaking lecture, 2012 which reveals links between Mayan astronomy, the war on terror, dog cloning, the novels of Saddam Hussein and the end of the world.
2.00-3.00pm: Thomas Shephard, an artist based in Liverpool, conducts a walking tour around the perimeter of Liverpool One, exploring the private take-over of public space, boundaries and what they separate.
2.15-3.00pm: Gavin Schofield founder of the Greater Manchester Sceptics Society outlines how scepticism might be the best way we have of deciphering the world in which we live.
3.00-4.00pm: Jane Parish, an anthropologist currently working at Keele University will explore the rise of the occult economy and conspiracy theorising specific to African communities in Liverpool.
4.00-5.00pm: Peter Goddard, co-author of Pockets of Resistance: British News Media, War and Theory in the 2003 Invasion of Iraq discusses Compassion, guilt and the Iraq war in the British press.
5.00-6.00pm: Bluecoat regulars Philosophy in Pubs lead a participatory discussion on conspiracy theories
5.00-6.00pm: Thomas Shephard, an artist living in Liverpool conducts a walking tour around the outside of Liverpool One, exploring boundaries and what they separate. (Repeat performance)
6.00-7.00pm: Adrian Quinn discusses the place of conspiracy theories in contemporary society, drawing on examples found in the 2001 book The Age of Anxiety: Conspiracy Theory & the Human Sciences, to which Adrian was a contributor.
