An unmissable opportunity to hear Australia's leading contemporary poet read from his work.
...one of the super league which includes Seamus Heaney, Derek Walcott and Joseph Brodsky - Blake Morrison, Independent on Sunday.
Les Murray was born in 1938 in rural New South Wales where he grew up on a dairy farm, and where he still lives. He studied at Sydney University and later worked as a translator at the Australian National University and as an officer in the Prime Minister's department. Poetry is his real vocation though, and from 1971 he made it his full time occupation.
Murray was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1999 and his latest collection of writing is The Biplane Houses (Carcanet, 2006).
