TV is education, current affairs, aspirations, escape, history, future, science, culture, art, music. The greatest variety of experience instantly, everyday always there. Wanted it as my subject for art but didn’t know how, by depicting a person makes the work about him. Here it is quoted as a condition, one that is currently undertaking changes. Valuable energy realized in a domestic environment. Television is an allegory for achievement always striving for the new which is not better. Technology is replacing nature, but TV snow revokes its use, in stasis, castrated from it’s function, just a box emitting light, emitting fuzz, emitting confusion and white noise. No pleasure, no entertainment, no learning, just stripped bare. No pleasure, no entertainment, no learning as we have known it, that’s what art is.
Becoming a painting it’s about op art, Victor Vasarely, Robert Ryman’s constant re-enacting of the end of painting, Toroni’s analytic and Impressionism’s capturing of the light. Analogue TV snow is chewed up with influence and spat out differently each time before the signal is switched off.
