Garden at the Bluecoat

Garden View

Following the redevelopment of the Bluecoat, access to the gardens has been greatly improved. The introduction of three levels has improved people’s ability to move around the gardens, alongside areas suitable for outdoor performances and more informal areas, which will help to retain the garden’s special character.

The new design now includes the creation of a woodland garden and the planting of trees with interesting structures and winter bark varieties such as Snake Bark. The design for the new gardens was created by a team of experts including, Brenda Evans, the Bluecoat’s volunteer gardener for the past 30 years, who provided invaluable advice and expertise.
