Hopes for opening day

Alastair Upton, Chief ExecutiveIt is 6 am March 15 and we open in 4 hours. We are as ready as we are going to be and last night, for the first time in weeks, I slept like a baby.
The opening itself went a bit weird last week as having publicised the blog idea of no celebrities and having everyone who wanted turn up and cut the ribbon I started to get calls from some of the people of power in the City asking what their role was, It turns out that they knew before I did that Andy Burnham, the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, fancied taking part. Anyway I rang his office to say that it was a no speeches and everyone taking part event and was told that was great, he just wanted to come along and was bringing his mom.
This has been as long time coming; 2 years of building work, 3 years closed, 7 years of planning, decades of dreaming. I hope people come as today the building is being given back to Liverpool.
