Green Spot
A customised slice of the countryside has descended upon the serene space of the Bluecoat courtyard. 16 trees, solar-powered and complete with benches and 'tree-hugging' literary quotes, will be with us until 14 September.
Green Spot is a temporary woodland installation or 'micro-forest' courtesy of Creative Concern, in partnership with Forestry Commssion, NWDA (Newlands), Mersey Basin, Groundwork Merseyside, and Environment Agency. An inspirational, educational, mobile installation where you can enjoy time out from the hustle and bustle of the city, and reflect on the positive sides of green.
Keith Jones, Forestry Commission, said: "Greenspot gives the people of Liverpool a chance to experience all the benefits of urban greening, even in locations where its not possible to plant permanent trees. Temporary installations like this highlight the benefits of permanent planting in the city environment: vital to reducing the urban heat effect, having a positive impact on reducing climate change, and creating spaces where urban dwellers can escape, and reap the benefits of feeling closer to nature."
Alastair Upton, Chief Executive at the Bluecoat comments: “The creative activity at the Bluecoat is never limited to the gallery walls or the Performance Space, so it's great to have this installation fill our courtyard. The fact that the Bluecoat already boasts that rare thing, a green space in a built up city centre, makes us an even more apt venue for Creative Concern’s Greenspot project.”
