Print Studio workshops
Print Studio at the Bluecoat's first season of short courses, workshops, guinea-pig sessions and talks begins in October and November offering a regular monthly and biweekly session plus special workshops and talks with Sean Rorke (Hot Bed Press), award-winning wood engraver Anne Desmet and Neil Morris (LJMU and Eight Days a Week). All three will also be featured in an exhibition in partnership with Editions Ltd.
With an emphasis on "safe" printmaking, we are keen to build a community of printmakers who can share skills and research as well as using the facilities. The space is also available to hire for experienced groups who have undertaken an induction.
Workshops
Once a month a specialist workshop for a maximum of 6 printmakers only, guaranteeing you a learning experience of the highest quality:

Multi-colour photo-etching with Sean Rorke
Spend a weekend learning how to get an image onto a plate, etching, aquatinting and printing your plate. Sean has been making photo-etchings for almost 20 years. He will give essential advice on creating simple positives and tips on printing in multi-colour, including a-la-poupé inking, viscosity printing and effective colour roll overs. Wood engraving with Anne Desmet
Learn how to engrave the end grain of box, pear or lemon wood using specialist tools from a recognised expert in the field. Anne will also show how to print your wood engraving by hand and discuss the modern ‘substitutes’ for these expensive blocks. See Exhibition and Talk for linked items.

Screen printing with Neil Morris
Learn how to create photographic stencils which look hand-made or painterly and use them to print your own multi-layered multi-coloured screenprint. Neil Morris heads up the Printmaking Department at Liverpool John Moores University. See Exhibition and Talk for linked items.

Masterclass in printing an edition with Jason Hicklin RE
Artist and masterprinter Jason Hicklin has printed for the likes of Norman Ackroyd, Bill Crozier and Ian Mckeevor. This is a rare opportunity to learn the basics of how to edition an etching including paper preparation, the press, your inks and studio set up. Invaluable tips from the man who knows.
