Liverpool Live 08 - 3 weekends of Live art in November

Blackmarket for Useful Knowledge and Non-Knowledge Continuing our live art programmes created specially for the Liverpool Biennial, the Bluecoat presents a series of experimental works by international and UK artists over three weekends in November. Major commissions - unexpected, intriguing and irresisstable - will occupy and transform various spaces around the building.

Geraldine Pilgrim summons up ghosts of the past, drawing on the building's history as a school. Artists from the Rules and Regs project taking place across thee UK come together to present their responses to restrictions that challenge the way they normally work. And finally the first presentation in this country of Blackmarket for Useful Knowledge and Non Knowledge, devised by Hannah Hurtzig from Berlin, involving fifty experts and a new theme chosen for Liverpool.

The artists reflect in different ways the 'Made Up' theme of this year's Biennial, engaging with ideas about truth and fiction, and creating unexpected environments or otherworldly performances, in which belief is suspended, and our certainties about the past or what we think we know are challenged. Liverpool Live us intended to provide an opportunity to experience some of the most vital, intriguing and innovative art being produced outside of the traditional gallery or theatre framework.

All events are free and you can even participate (in Blackmarket) for as little as £1, or - appropriately in Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture - the even cheaper price of 1 Euro.

We are grateful for the support of ourpartners, the Live Art Development Agency, the Blue Coat School and Rules and Regs, and to funders Arts Council England, the Goethe Institut Manchester, The Heritage Lottery Fund and Liverpool Culture Company.
