Shine at the Bluecoat wins art08 award

Boy using Shine on-lineThe winners of art08, the Arts Council awards for the north-west, have been announced. Celebrating collaboration between art and business, the Bluecoat and Yorkshire Bank have received the Creative Sparks award for Shine at the Bluecoat, our monthly participation activity for 11 - 16 year olds.

Shine at the Bluecoat in association with Yorkshire Bank was launched in April 2008, and has provided monthly changing activities for budding young creatives. From designing a Superlambanana for the Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival, to writing the introduction to a spy novel, and from dancing using only facial features, to making jewellery for the Lady Mayoress, the series has shown off a rich variety of art forms, and involved many creatives who are based at the Bluecoat.

December is your final chance to take part in 2008 and we want you to come up with the perfect music festival: ShineFest

There will be ShineFest sessions in the Hub at the Bluecoat on Saturdays 6, 13 and 20 December from 11.00am – 4.00pm. Come and work with Sonica Recordings to mix your own Festival soundscape and enter the competition.

The activities are open to all but if you are aged between 11 – 16 you can enter your work for the chance to win a masterclass with a professional musician and sound engineer who will help you  capture the flavour of your ShineFest through a soundscape.

Shine ExhibitionFollowing December's Shine, and to round off a busy year of creativity, we will host an exhibition of some of the fantastic work created by young people from across the city. This will take place in the Sandon Room from Friday 23 – Sunday 25 January 2009 (open 10.00am – 6.00pm each day). Come along to see sculpture, jewellery, creative writing, dance and music made by some of our upcoming talent.
