Acclaimed artists are donating exclusive artworks to support the final fit-out of public spaces at the Bluecoat.

An online silent auction will be live until 10th December, giving people the chance to bag original works by renowned artists like the Singh Twins, Pete Frame and Leo Fitzmaurice. Iconic pieces, such as a limited edition signed print of the illustration by Yvonne Gilbert, famously used on the cover of the 1983 Frankie Goes To Hollywood single ‘Relax’, are available.
 
The bidding process will conclude at a live auction event - a pre-christmas celebration of the Bluecoat’s re-opening next year and an opportunity to pick up some unique gifts, hosted by actor and presenter Simon O’Brien, 11th December at LEAF, Roscoe Lane.

Alastair Upton, Chief Executive at the Bluecoat comments ‘The money raised will contribute to the final fit out of public areas at the Bluecoat, beautiful vibrant spaces that will be enjoyed by all our visitors when we re-open in early 08. The auction provides an opportunity for well-wishers to show their support in this final phase of redevelopment and gives us the opportunity to reengage with artists who have a connection to the Bluecoat, something we see as a key aim as we gear up for next year.’

Donating artists have been voicing their great respect and affection for this Liverpool institution and describing why they are keen to be involved in supporting its redevelopment.

Graham Crowley, prizewinner at the 2006 John Moores prize and member of the 2008 John Moores prize selection panel comments ‘As a young artist, the Bluecoat provided an opportunity for me to reach a wider audience...I’m just one of many helped in this way’.

Pete Clarke, a local artist respected regionally and internationally, who has shown at the Bluecoat many times, describes the Bluecoat as ‘A critical space where traditions and practices can be challenged...It gives artists in the city confidence and possibilities.’

The respected music writer Pete Frame, who is well known for his Rock Family Trees and has donated the ultimate Rock Family Twig for the Beatles to the auction, adds “My favourite building in my favourite city. It’s a great honour to have had my work displayed there.’
