Volunteer Opportunities

Bluecoat is currently seeking volunteers to assist in the delivery of the forthcoming exhibition Abacus, which responds to the two histories of Bluecoat - as a school, and as a gallery - to explore alternative histories of creative education, and their resonance today. Artists have been encouraged to consider children and young people as their primary audience, resulting in a series of playful, interactive and stimulating works by Simon & Tom Bloor, Aurelian Froment and Liverpool-based artists Emily Speed and Mark Simmonds. Children aged 5-11 from Bluecoat’s long running programme of art clubs, Out of the Blue, have had an input as well as artists with learning disabilities from the Blue Room project.

We expect the exhibition, and accompanying activities, will attract lots of family visitors over the summer holidays. We are looking to expand our existing team of volunteers by recruiting people with a specific interest in supporting children and families to access the arts. Volunteers will support the visitor experience, engaging children (and adults) with creative concepts in a cultural context and making sure they feel a warm welcome.

Bluecoat endeavours to provide volunteers with opportunities for structured professional development and experiences which will be helpful in their future careers.  We believe that volunteering for the course of this exhibition would be a valuable learning experience for anyone interested in a career in formal or informal education. We would also be keen to support anyone who has previous related professional experience to contribute their existing skills. Training will be provided.
