Drawing on the philosophy of Martin Heidegger, the films of Charlie Chaplin, the TV show Family Guy and Samuel Beckett's Endgame, Shaun May addresses a distinctive characteristic of human beings: our ability to make and comprehend jokes. 

Shaun May is a Lecturer in Drama and Theatre at the University of Kent and the author of A Philosophy of Comedy on Stage and Screen (Bloomsbury) and Rethinking Practice as Research and the Cognitive Turn (Palgrave). Prior to joining the faculty at Kent, he was a postdoc in the philosophy department of the University of Liverpool and he taught at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Royal College of Art.
