Bernadette O'Toole

Bernadette

Bernadette O’Toole is a visual artist with a BA Hon 1st from JMU and MFA  from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. She is currently based in Liverpool and is one of the founding members of the artist run project space The Lost Soul and Stranger Service Station.

Her recent paintings present an uncanny and ambiguous world of meticulously constructed floating planes defined by a palette reminiscent of Flemish portraiture. O’Toole’s response to the architectural spaces we inhabit is visceral, nervous, poetic, a restless world of edges and planes which if fugitive and illusive can be captured and held on the surface of the painting. The reality O’Toole seeks to communicate is in a state of continual slippage.
