Old Bear Press

A newly formed group of artists, studying at the University of Central Lancashire. They share a common love of book and print media.  Current members include Heather Chou, Alex McIntosh, Deborah Neely and Kathryn Poole. Heather struggles with conflicting cultural identities between the East and the West, and often her work expresses that confusion and the sense of loss. She often uses the repetitiveness of lithography to force herself to remember what home means and the world that associates with it. Alex’s work continues to explore the dynamic between the views imagination and the space they experience. It was his fascination with the manner in which darkness changes our understanding of a space, making a space less sharp and defined and allowing the imagination to fill in the gaps that lead him to the motif of the forest. Kathryn has a background in human biology and works from scientific collections; documenting, recording and cataloguing her drawings into artist books or prints. Recently embarked on a course of study in fine art printmaking with bookbinding, Deborah is working towards a Masters’ Degree at the University of Central Lancashire. Early art history studies involved Deborah in curatorial work with provincial art galleries and museums in Lancashire.
