ART Valley Outreach Programme

ART Valley is a programme of arts activities for people living in Alt Valley, an area of North Liverpool that includes Clubmoor, Croxteth, Fazakerley, Norris Green and Walton (County & Warbreck).

The programme is a partnership between the Bluecoat and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres. Together we work with the City Council’s neighbourhood management services, Liverpool Primary Care Trust and local social registered landlords Cobalt Housing.

We have a team of two staff who are based in Fazakerley. Their role is to work with local community organisations and with statutory bodies to increase access to the arts in Alt Valley through a year-round programme of activities. Since 2009 we have worked with over 3000 people from the area.

The programme looks to respond to priorities in each neighbourhood using the arts as a way of engaging people. For example we have designed projects specifically to tackle anti-social behaviour, isolation amongst older people and lack of confidence in young parents.

Much of the ART Valley programme takes place in Alt Valley in lots of different venues. We work on the streets, in youth and community centres, in schools and even in people’s homes. We run taster sessions and longer projects using drama, art, music, dance, film, creative writing and crafts. Ultimately we always aim to bring groups to the Bluecoat or to one of the theatres to experience the arts in our venues once they have grown more comfortable with the arts in more familiar spaces.
