Beginners Acrylic Painting (10 Week Course)

  • Tue, 09 May 2017 - Tue, 18 Jul 2017
  • 6.45 PM - 9.00 PM

Explore and investigate a broad range of traditional and contemporary painting processes and practices, focusing on the use of acrylics, with reknowned artist and experienced teacher Richard Meaghan. Suitable for beginners.

This painting course will be open to all abilities from complete beginners who haven’t done art since school, to those who use art as a hobby, as well as artists wanting help developing their own work and practise. Over the course of 10 weeks, you will develop your awareness of painting as a unique means of visual communication. Through practical work you will consolidate your knowledge of visual grammar and expand your visual literacy. You will consider how ideas, information and feelings can be articulated, transformed and conveyed through visual systems, processes and conventions. As well as having the opportunity to reflect on historical precedents and draw upon your own experiences, you will be encouraged to explore your own aesthetic abilities and visual judgements which will form a fundamental part of your practise.

The course will be led by professional artist Richard Meaghan is currently based in a studio at Metal in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staffordshire university, and on graduating, was awarded a travel grant to study Renaissance Art in Italy. The resulting work was awarded first prize in the Sefton Open, followed shortly with his first solo Public exhibition at the Atkinson Art gallery, Southport.

Meaghan was chosen as one of three emerging artists to exhibit alongside Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili and Keith Tyson in ‘Exposed- Art and Culture in England’s North West’ and was shortlisted for the Liverpool Art Prize in 2009. He has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and has future exhibitions planned for Liverpool, London, Copenhagen, Denmark, Berlin, Germany and Brussels, Belgium.
