This event is part of LOOK/17 (Liverpool International Photography Festival)

Paul Jones's talk is entitled "All the Hands Have Not Yet Been Played" (Or: Visualising Urban Regeneration in Liverpool).
Reflecting on the visual character of regeneration narratives in Liverpool, and the processes of investment and divestment that continue to shape the form of cities in China and the UK more generally, this paper will draw attention to the ways in which photography and digital modelling become mobilised in the context of creations of urban pasts and future.

Fei Chen's talk is entitled "The 'visual effect' of Chinese urban design". In the talk, she will introduce the design process of two projects both in Nanjing, one completed in 2016 and the other in 2005. She is interested in the production of urban images in contemporary China and the symbolic role they play the purposes of commodification, place-branding and celebration of political achievement.
