Baby Book Club Autumn 2018

It’s never too early to start reading together! Our popular Baby Book Club returns with a course of 10 weekly sessions for parents and carers with babies aged from 3 to 12 months.

The course has been designed by arts practitioners such as Roger Hill to help new parents to develop their reading skills and techniques while encouraging their babies to engage with different books. Each session includes discussion and sharing time, book recommendations and reviews, individual and group reading, and fun activities linked to the weekly core story.

"The Baby Book Club has introduced books I’d never heard of and reminded me of ones I loved when I was young. I have found the sessions exploring inventive ways to get more out of books really useful and have easily put them into practice at home, making reading time even more fun" - Annie MacLean (and Betsy), Baby Book Club alumni.

The September sessions have now sold out (Tue 11 Sep - Tue 13 Nov 9.30am - 11am).

But if you would like to reserve a space for January 2019 please contact elizabeth.h@thebluecoat.org.uk

The course is 10 sessions long and costs just £35.

Limited places, booking required.

* Parents / Carers will need to sign up for the full 10 session course.

Take a break in our Upstairs Bistro or Espresso Cafe

As well as being a centre for the contemporary arts, Bluecoat is the perfect location for fresh, local food and drink, right in the city centre. Our Upstairs Bistro serves hearty, warming comfort food, with a menu inspired by Bistro Classics; a return to the most popular dishes we have served over the years, including Fish & Chips, Sausage & Mash and Scouse:

Please click here to see our current Bistro menu / View our special menu for children

The Bistro is located on the first floor. The lift to the Bistro can be found in the Vide exhibition display area.

If you are in a bit more of a rush, drop by to our Espresso Cafe located in the ground floor Hub. We offer barista coffee, leaf teas, craft ales, wines and soft drinks. We have a wide selection of freshly made sandwiches, salads, homemade cakes and biscuits.  If the sun is shining take your food and drink outside and relax in our beautiful garden, which offers a peaceful retreat from the summer crowds.

Family Friendly

Bluecoat is a family-friendly venue with ground floor baby-changing facilities.  Visit our exhibition, play in the garden, follow our gallery trail and join in our family-friendly activities. Every Saturday Explore offers free, fun, creative activities for all the family. Plus our Children's Corner provides activities to keep you and your little ones happy with self-guided activities and storybooks.
