Baby Song Social

This weekly choir for babies and their parents and carers has been devised by Emma Smith, the artist behind our new spring exhibition, Euphonia. The weekly sessions are designed as an introduction to collective singing and music play. Led by musicians such as Nicola Burke, Lucy Drever and Madeleine Shrimpton, in addition to child psychologist Professor Lauren Stewart, this hands-on class encourages parents and carers to be part of the fun and explore the bonding potential of music-making.

This will be a relaxed event with mats and beanbags, suitable for children aged 3-18 months. Pram and buggy storage will be available within the room.

  • Thu 10 May / 9:45 - 11am with musician Nicola Burke
  • Thu 17 May / 9:45 - 11am - with artist Madeleine Shrimpton
  • Thu 24 May / 9:45 - 11am with singer and early years specialist Lucy Drever
  • Thu 31 May / 9:45 - 11am with singer and early years specialist Lucy Drever

Take a break in our Upstairs Bistro or Espresso Cafe

As well as being a centre for the contemporary arts, Bluecoat is the perfect location for fresh, local food and drink, right in the city centre.

Our Upstairs Bistro serves hearty, warming comfort food, with a menu inspired by Bistro Classics; a return to the most popular dishes we have served over the years, including Fish & Chips, Sausage & Mash and Scouse.

The Bistro is located on the first floor. The lift to the Bistro can be found in the Vide exhibition display area, currently displaying Bluecoat: at the Heart of Liverpool Culture.

If you are in a bit more of a rush, drop by to our Espresso Cafe located in the ground floor Hub. We offer barista coffee, leaf teas, craft ales, wines and soft drinks. We have a wide selection of freshly made sandwiches, salads, homemade cakes and biscuits.

If the sun is shining take your food and drink outside and relax in our beautiful garden, which offers a peaceful retreat from the summer crowds.

Family Friendly

Bluecoat is a family-friendly venue with ground floor baby-changing facilities and we are a registered Breastfeeding Welcome venue.  Visit our exhibition, play in the garden, follow our gallery trail and join in our family-friendly activities. Every Saturday Explore offers free, fun, creative activities for all the family. Plus our Children's Corner provides activities to keep you and your little ones happy with self-guided activities and storybooks. The Upstairs Bistro also boasts a brand new play area with plenty of storybooks and games.
