Hayley Tompkins (b. 1971, Leighton Buzzard) makes work which articulates the relationship between the form, feel and function of an object. While painting plays a pivotal role in her practice including  watercolour on paper, she has also applied her distinctive palette of muted greens, ochre tones and bright sherbets to an wide array of everyday, found objects such as hammers, bottles, knives, chairs, twigs, mobile phones and fragments of clothing. All of these materials carefully worked on by Tompkins to amplify their particular qualities and suggest new possibilities and identities.

fs is a free school running for 12 months in Liverpool. This is the third in a series of artist lectures as part of its 'further studies' programme, an evolving timetable of knowledge sharing activity developing in various locations around Liverpool and beyond, open for all to attend free of charge.
