Biennial Family Afternoon

  • 1.00 PM - 4.00 PM
  • Tickets: Free, drop-in

Bring the whole family for a day out at Bluecoat. With family friendly tours of the Beautiful world, where are you? exhibition in our galleries and hands-on activities with Biennial artist Ryan Gander, there’s something for all ages.

For the Liverpool Biennial 2018, Ryan Gander has devised a project called Time Moves Quickly, working collaboratively with five children from Knotty Ash Primary School in Liverpool (Jamie Clark, Phoebe Edwards, Tianna Mehta, Maisie Williams and Joshua Yates) to produce a series of artworks for a group exhibition, as well as a series of five bench-like sculptures at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

Activities on the day include solving a giant architectural jigsaw, creating sculptural costumes and taking part in 'musical (sculpture) statues'. Also enjoy a family friendly tour of the gallery at 2pm!

Sat 18 Aug / 1pm - 4pm

Free, drop-in.

Take a break in our Upstairs Bistro or Espresso Cafe

As well as being a centre for the contemporary arts, Bluecoat is the perfect location for fresh, local food and drink, right in the city centre. Our Upstairs Bistro serves hearty, warming comfort food, with a menu inspired by Bistro Classics; a return to the most popular dishes we have served over the years, including Fish & Chips, Sausage & Mash and Scouse:

Please click here to see our current Bistro menu / View our special menu for children

The Bistro is located on the first floor. The lift to the Bistro can be found in the Vide exhibition display area.

If you are in a bit more of a rush, drop by to our Espresso Cafe located in the ground floor Hub. We offer barista coffee, leaf teas, craft ales, wines and soft drinks. We have a wide selection of freshly made sandwiches, salads, homemade cakes and biscuits.  If the sun is shining take your food and drink outside and relax in our beautiful garden, which offers a peaceful retreat from the summer crowds.

Family Friendly

Bluecoat is a family-friendly venue with ground floor baby-changing facilities.  Visit our exhibition, play in the garden, follow our gallery trail and join in our family-friendly activities. Every Saturday Explore offers free, fun, creative activities for all the family. Plus our Children's Corner provides activities to keep you and your little ones happy with self-guided activities and storybooks.
