Bluecoat Heritage Weekend

Bluecoat, Liverpool’s oldest city centre building, has a fascinating history, from charity school to contemporary arts centre. Find out about its heritage through guided tours (12.30 and 3.30pm Sat, and 1pm Sun), displays, children’s activities and an opportunity to delve into our archive. Sophie Jones’ talk Subscriptions, Schooling and Slavery (Sat 2pm) looks at how the school was funded in the early 18th century and discusses with Alex Robinson and Laurence Westgaph the significance of maritime trade, in particular transatlantic slavery, to this story.

Drop in to the heritage presentation Sat/Sun any time between 11am - 5pm.

Get a rare glimpse at some of the material that we are developing into an archive of the arts centre’s 100 plus year history in our Library Open Days, Sat/Sun 1-4pm.

 Join us for Explore in the Gallery, activities for families and children based on our heritage exhibition, Sat 1 - 4pm.

Sophie Jones presents her research into how Blue Coat school was funded in the early 18th century and discusses with Alex Robinson and Laurence Westgaph the extent of the significance of maritime trade, in particular transatlantic slavery, to its story.
