Bluecoat is pleased to announce a three year collaborative doctoral award studentship with the Department of History at the University of Liverpool. Part of the North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership, this is funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council. The successful candidate, Michelle Girvan will be researching Charity, Piety and Commerce: Liverpool’s Blue Coat School and pragmatic politeness in the eighteenth century. She will draw on a range of sources including records of the Blue Coat School, papers of influential donors, and church and Liverpool Corporation material, to analyse the building's charity school origins and uncover stories of some of the children.
