The 2012 Lowry Lounge: Liverpool City Centre Walk

2012

Lowry described Liverpool as that 'terrible city whose main street is the ocean', and for the 2012 Lounge Colin Dilnot led another city centre walk, Lowry's Many-voiced Mersey. Starting at the Bluecoat, the walk visited resonant sites that appear in Lowry's writing including the Mersey, the writer's ‘risk-laden escape route from lunacy into uncertainty’. The route - seen in these images - took in College Lane/Paradise Street/Lord Street/Derby Square/Castle Street/Dale Street/Hackins Hey/Tithebarn Street/Chapel Street/Old Hall Street/Union Street/Lancelot Hey/Chapel Street/St Nicholas Place/Pier Head/Albert Dock/Chavasse Park, before returning to the arts centre.
