About
James Byrne launches his new collection The Banality of Power, a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, published by Broken Sleep Books. Other recent poetry collections include Nightsongs for Gaia: New and Selected Poems (Arc Publications, 2025) and The Overmind (Broken Sleep, 2024). For many years he lived in the Liverpool area and now resides in New York. The Liverpool poet Sarah Crewe writes of The Banality of Power: ‘essential for poetry that is right here, right now. Work to be shared and disseminated.’
Jesse Hill is a transdisciplinary researcher and poet, creating ecologically-rooted projects shaped by seasonal cycles and our queer relationship with the breathing world. They teach Creative Writing at Edge Hill University whilst working on their posthuman PhD on becoming with the pagan Wheel of the Year. Their writing has been published in Tentacular, Writers Rebel, Anarkiss, Feels, and Seedlings. Their film-poems have been showcased in Mexico, Portugal, New York, and around the UK. Chris McCabe‘s work spans artforms and genres including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, drama and visual art. His writing has been shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award and the Republic of Consciousness Prize. He is the editor of several anthologies including Poems from the Edge of Extinction: An Anthology of Poetry in Endangered Languages. His novels are Dedalus and Mud. He’s the author of six poetry collections - the latest in Hedonism from Nine Arches Press, described by The Guardian as showing ‘the full muscle and gristle of lived language.’ He works as the Head of the National Poetry Library.
Robert Sheppard has published many books, including Twentieth Century Blues from Salt, and British Standards from Shearsman. Tonight he will be launching Holme Fell: A Sample of Landscapes, a collaboration with the photographer Trev Eales, published by Knives Forks and Spoons. This volume explores the landscape, history and present of the Lake District through Eales’ colour photography. Sheppard is Emeritus Professor of Poetry and Poetics at Edge Hill University.
