Concert Hall post-war restoration

1951

Bluecoat's upstairs Concert Hall was severely damaged during the May blitz of 1941. It is shown here ten years later, shortly after reopening, with a new stage, but no proscenium, and seating for 399. A concert series, launched by Sir Ernest Pooley, Chairman of the Arts Council of Great Britain, was held in April, 1951, following an exhibition in the space in the summer of 1950, Fifty Years of Merseyside Art, organised by the Sandon Studios Society.
