Turn a favourite celebrity or a treasured family photograph into a unique, Warhol inspired piece of art for your home.

Course Location: Bluecoat Screen Print Studio

Experience Level: Beginners

Duration: The course runs for one day (11:00am - 5:00) with a break for lunch

During this one day course you will learn how to turn your family photograph into a UV stencil screen from start to finish. Once you have your screen made, you’ll be talked through some experimental screen techniques to add colour to your prints. You'll finish the workshop by using our screen-beds to ink and print your artwork onto paper in a small edition that you can take home with you.

What’s Included?

All materials you will use are included in the cost of the course, but you are welcome to bring along your own if you choose. Our studios are environmentally friendly where possible and use greener methods of screen printing, such as water-based acrylic inks. Completing this course will act as an Induction to book into our Screen Printing Studio should you wish to.

Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?

YES! You will need to send a digital image or scan of the photograph you’d like to make your artwork from to ivy.m@thebluecoat.org.uk the week before the course. The quality of your photo will affect the outcome of your final print – the higher quality the better!

Due to time constraints, we will create your positives ready to expose to screens before the workshop. You will receive a quick demonstration on how to turn a photograph into a black and white halftone image (used for developing your UV screen) on Photoshop and a handout of the process.
