We can’t wait to welcome you back to Bluecoat.

The health of our visitors is our highest priority, and as such we have taken a number of measures to ensure your visit to our building and galleries is safe and comfortable. Read on to find out more about the steps we’ve taken, in line with the latest government advice, and for full information on our reopening.

We're open

Upon reopening our gallery hours will be 11am - 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday. We will review these times periodically and hope to resume our full hours as soon as possible.

Our café and garden will also open from Wednesday 19th May, 11am-5pm, Wednesday - Sunday.

Our community of creative retailers is now open, with many operating reduced opening hours. Contact them individually for opening times.

Our Bistro remains closed until further notice.

Covid safe measures

We are taking a number of practical measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19

  • We will carefully manage the number of people in our building at any one time via timed ticketing, to ensure there is ample space for social distancing. We encourage you to pre-book your visit where possible to avoid disappointment. Click here to book your visit to Bluecoat now.
  • We will display specific signage around the building and gallery to encourage social distancing.
  • We have hand sanitiser stations around the building and encourage visitors to make use of these.
  • We have implemented increased cleaning of communal areas, including high contact points such as door handles.
  • Café tables and chairs will be cleaned after each use.
  • In line with government advice, anyone visiting our building must wear a face covering unless you are genuinely exempt.
  • There will be specially trained staff at regular points around our building to answer your questions.
  • Please do not visit Bluecoat if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19. For more information on these please visit the NHS website.

We've been awarded Visit England's 'We're Good To Go' kitemark as a result of the extra health and safety measures we've put in place.

FAQ's

Do I need to book?

Entry is free but we will be operating timed ticketing. We recommend you prebook to avoid disappointment, as numbers will be limited to ensure social distancing, even if you are just visiting our cafe. Whilst we will always do our best to accommodate visitors, we recommend you pre-book in order to guarantee your visit at your preferred time. Click here to book your visit to Bluecoat now.

Do I need to book if I am a member?

In order to help us manage the number of people in the building we are recommending all visitors, including members, pre-book their visit. Click here to book your visit to Bluecoat now.

Do I need to book to see Bluecoat Platform in the courtyard?

You don't need to book to visit the outdoor sculpture, but we do ask that you keep social distancing in mind and wear a mask when on the sculpture if possible.

I have pre-booked but can no longer attend. What should I do?

We would appreciate it if you could cancel your ticket via the confirmation email you would have received from Eventbrite if you are no longer able to use your booking. This enables us to ensure we have an accurate picture of the number of people using our building, and will help us to welcome as many people as possible. How do I access Bluecoat?

Entry to Bluecoat is via our front gates off School Lane.

Our College Lane entrance (through our garden) remains closed at this time.

Test and Trace

We are taking part in the NHS Test and Trace service. The data we collect at the time of your booking, or entry to our building, is to support this programme and would only be shared with the NHS if an outbreak of Covid was identified from someone who had visited Bluecoat. Data is held for 21 days and will not be used for any purpose other than Test and Trace.

Do I have to wear a mask?

In line with government advice, you must wear a face covering when visiting our building. We will regularly review the government guidance on this and update our guidelines accordingly.

What exhibitions will be open at Bluecoat?

Bluecoat will reopen with this year's Liverpool Biennial The Stomach and the Port.

The exhibitions take place in our spacious galleries with ample room for social distancing. The upper floors of our Vide display remain closed for now.

Will there be exhibition leaflets available for information?

We will have paper copies of interpretation available in our galleries to accompany the exhibitions. We ask that you please put your copy in the bin after reading it.

What facilities are open at Bluecoat?

Our Café will be open from Wednesday - Sunday, 11am - 5pm. The number of customers we can serve in line with social distancing recommendations will be limited. Our Café will open for drinks and light snacks.

Our garden is open for café customers and gallery visitors.

Our upstairs Bistro remains closed.

Our toilets and baby change facilities will be open to visitors. It may be necessary to close the toilets for a short time to allow for additional cleaning during opening hours.

Are you accepting cash?

Yes, but we recommend that you use contactless card payments if possible.

Will events and family activities be taking place? Will the print studio be open?

Bluecoat will reopen in phases and at the moment our focus is on reopening our gallery. Our events programme and family activities remain suspended at present. Our print studio remains temporarily closed until further notice.

Will Blue Room be re-starting in the building?

Blue Room, our inclusive arts programme, is not currently taking place in our building. Instead our Blue Room at Home service will continue until members are able to safely return to Bluecoat.
