Talk in the gallery: A Cargo of Questions

Philip Courtenay introduces his Re:LODE installation, part of the In the Peaceful Dome exhibition . He is joined by Bluecoat's Sociologist in Residence Paul Jones and PhD researcher Laura Harris, who will respond to this work, first developed 25 years ago taking global trade as its starting point.

In 1992, the artist traversed the globe, returning with symbolic cargoes that were then brought from Albert Dock and unpacked at Bluecoat by young people from arts project Yellow House, a process that continued in Hull. 25 years later the work is being revisited in the context of globalisation’s unstoppable march and the instant communication of the internet.

This is the first in a series of participative events that will continue in January, involving free discussions every three weeks that will unpack Re:LODE and its themes of human geography and mapping, global politics and digital communication.
