Owed to White Noise (2017) is the most recent of Hannah Catherine Jones’ ongoing series of Oweds, audio-visual performances exploring the act of (self-)reparation. The artist combines video, theremin, viola, mandolin and vocals in an improvised sonic ritual that becomes an immersive experience. Owed to White Noise (re)searches for unknown and forgotten histories through the lens of Afrofuturism, while investigating the perpetual obfuscation inherent in the process itself.

Join us for drinks at Bluecoat’s Upstairs Bistro from 6pm (pay bar). The performance starts at 6.30pm promptly.

Hannah Catherine Jones (aka Foxy Moron, b. 1987, Doncaster, UK) is a London-based artist, multi-instrumentalist, researcher, radio presenter (NTS), composer, conductor and founder of Peckham Chamber Orchestra. Jones is currently a DPhil scholar (AHRC) at The Ruskin School of Art/Christ Church at Oxford University. Jones' audio-visual productions explore concepts of ancestry and totality, both in relation to art and to ‘blackness’, ideas of ‘cultural reparations’, and an ongoing questioning of what we consider to be Afrofuturism. Jones has performed, exhibited and lectured widely including at Beirut Arts Centre, Beirut, Lebanon (2017); Liquid Architecture, Melbourne, Australia (2017); Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts (2015); Art Week Joburg, Johannesburg, South Africa (2015); All Souls College, Oxford, UK (2014); and NYU, New York (2013).
