The Lowry Lounge and Conference, 2017

The Bluecoat's eighth annual celebration of the life and work of Wirral-born Malcolm Lowry (1909-1957) was the most ambitious to date, incorporating a conference at Liverpool John Moores University and the Bluecoat, a coach and walking tour of the Wirral, an archival display, artists' installations, and the premiere of a new performance commission.

July 28 - July 29 2017

Staged over two days at the end of July rather than the usual October date, the event attracted an international audience including some of the leading Lowry scholars from Belgium, Canada, France, New Zealand, the US and the UK. For many of them the Lounge element enabled them to experience for the first time a guided walking tour of Lowry's Wirral and creative responses to Lowry by Merseyside-based artists, developed specially for the occasion.
