Introduction to Etching

  • Sat, 11 Feb 2017
  • 11.00 AM - 5.00 PM
  • Tickets: £60/£50

Sat 11 Feb, 11am - 5pm

Learn about etching methods in our intaglio studio. Etchings are created by using a chemical reaction to bite a line into a metal plate which once filled with ink can be printed onto damp paper using an etching press. This is a great process for people that would like to expand the potential of their drawing. The permanent marks made into the metal plate allow you to print them over and over again on the day or at a later date.

On the day you will be introduced to soft and hard ground etching techniques, which as the name suggests, allow you to create both hard and soft lines. You will be shown how to ink up using the intaglio wiping technique and you will get to use our over 100 year old etching press which is still going strong. Once you have completed the course you will be able to come back and hire the etching room to carry on with your printing details of which will be explained to you within the session. This course is open to absolute print beginners and those more experienced alike. You don't have to be an artist to come along and find out more about etching!
