Currently there we are still in touch with a generation which lived through the single most disruptive conflict of the 20th century. For many the war provided a backdrop for their formative years shading their ambitions for a peaceful world. Since then we have had generations whose experience of war has been at a distance mediated through the media.

 Words are like weapons they wound some time, sang Cher though it may seem flippant to quote from a 80s power ballad classic, but we are all aware of the power of words. Not only do they have the power to hurt they have the power to heal, to help form and build a better world.

Bed-In at the Bluecoat: Collectve Encounters present The Peace Monologues

The members of the Collective Encounters: Theatre of the Third Age arrive in good spirits for their Bed-In, which slightly belies the message they are going to be spreading with their piece ‘The Peace Monologues’ which will see them recounting their personal experiences of conflict, these experiences ranges from the Falkland’s War to the Miners’ strike, all of which has shaped their desire for peace.

Bed-In at the Bluecoat: Motherhood and Peace

Looking back on it this was one of the Bed-In’s which made me nervous, it has nothing to do with the content or the message of the Bed-In. It has more to do  the fact that two of members of the New Life Collective are heavily pregnant and very close to their dues dates, well I had to wonder about the possibility of the first baby to be born in The Bluecoat.
