Bed-In at the Bluecoat: Me and John Lennon - Jason T Richardson

For a man who has won the Weakest Link Jason T Richardson enters the Bluecoat unassumingly to begin preparations for his bed. Not only does this include the donning of a pair of pyjamas but also to decorate the space with a series of handwritten signs, giving the Bed-In a ‘let’s put the show on her’ feel.

Once Jason takes to bed with John and Yoko (in teddy bear form) he begins to read aloud his poems from A to Z, in between the poems he tells little stories about the poems themselves or just to talk the people around in a seriously ramshackle way.

This approach was also seen in Jason’s readings of Lennon’s own poems, where in order to indicate the switch between poets Jason would don wig and beard therefore removing any confusion as to whose poem was being read.

It was great to see how after a slow start an audience had gathered around the bed, to share in the general good humour of Jason’s Bed-In which seemed to follow Lennon’s dictum of using humour as a way of disarming people, as the main weapon in the fight for peace.
