Events

Tomorrow - Wed 15 Apr 6pm, free - Dr Fei Chen from the Architecture School is in conversation with Head of Programme Marie-Anne McQuay and exhibiting artist Tabitha Jussa. Discussing the impact of development on the planning of cities and the lives people with a particular emphasis on Shanghai.

Wed 22 Apr, Tickets: £3/£2 Unmade Film: The Proposal is a lecture performance that presents the journey of a film that is impossible to make.

Uriel Orlow's 'Unmade Film: The Proposal' takes as its starting point the mental hospital Kfar Sha’ul in Jerusalem. Initially specialising in the treatment of Holocaust survivors – including a relative of the artist – it was established in 1951 using the remains of the Palestinian village Deir Yassin that had been depopulated in a massacre by Zionist paramilitaries in April 1948. In the lecture performance the artist reconstructs a narrative of time and space and explores questions around narrative structures and the eventual impossibility of making the proposed film. The live format combines story telling, autobiography, and interrogation with the act of witnessing on the part of the audience.

Things to do

There’s the Engagement Trolley in the gallery every day, which responds to some of the themes in the shows with different levels of activity (quick and longer ones) and on Saturdays 1-4pm there are activities in the hub aimed at children.

Print Club

Next on Tue 21 Apr, Tickets: £15 - The new Print Club is for anyone who wants a social experience while learning to print - no experience necessary.

What else is on show?

On the first floor – outside the performance space – there’s a show of work by Manchester based artist Samantha Donnelly. This exhibition has emerged from the Print Residency run by the Print Studios here. The call for 2 more residencies will be announced soon.
