Heritage prints by the Blue Room artists

Print by Charlean Page, Blue Room artist

To celebrate 300 years of Bluecoat, Blue Room have designed a range of items inspired by the heritage of our building.

Looking back through the rich history of the building and using archive images as a starting point, Blue Room artists have created a screen printed collection of notebooks, pencil cases, tote bags and limited edition prints. Each item was hand printed at Bluecoat’s onsite print studio by the artists, using the screen print technique.

Donald Birchall, one of the Blue Room artists, said “I like printing. I chose a picture from the 1960s to draw. The ladies are looking at the paintings on the Bluecoat railings. I like Bluecoat and seeing all my friends here. I like fundraising and selling my artwork.”

Blue Room is Bluecoat’s inclusive arts programme for learning disabled adults. Since 2008, three groups of Blue Room artists have met weekly at the gallery to explore the exhibitions and create their own art work. Members are supported to develop creative and social skills, building confidence and greater independence.

The prints can be purchased from the Tickets and Information desk at Bluecoat. The money raised from the sale of these items is reinvested into Blue Room and will help enrich and enhance Bluecoat's programme of activities and opportunities for learning disabled artists.
