So, having finished the 6-week taster period for the ‘Hand on Craft’ project, I definitely think I could give Kirsty Allsopp a run for her money. As a volunteer at the Bluecoat, I received an email mentioning the project and how its main aim is to get more people under 25 into traditional ways of being craft.
This week Hand on Crafts learnt some simple book binding from Elizabeth Willow. Focussing on three simple techniques, the group learnt how to make a pamphlet book, a spiral fold and a triangle fold origami book.
Lord Mayor Councillor Sharon Sullivan visited us tonight to congratulate engraver Bob Porter and his wife Joan on 20 years work at the Bluecoat.
This week our Hand on Craft project headed up to our screen printing studios to work with printmakers Jen Fenner and Katie Whitfield. Time was tight, so Katie stayed with half the group to go through their work and help translate them into prints, whilst Jen took the other half to the print room to have a go at pulling their own screen print.
