Laura Aquilina

Laura Aquilina is a visual artist, mostly drawing and painting landscapes.

Her inspiration often comes from images and scenes in her favourite books, TV shows and films. Her works often reference pop songs that Aquilina can sing and sign in Makaton, a language programme that uses signs together with speech and symbols.

Aquilina was recently featured as Art Et Al’#MondayMuse with Diamonds in the Sky (2022), a painting of a volcano inspired by the film ‘Dante’s Peak’.

‘’I make art because it makes me feel proud to be able to show what is in my head. I feel proud when I see my hard work come together.’’

Studio Me

Aquilina is part of Studio Me, Blue Room’s artist development project. Through this Aquilina has received mentoring from freelance artist and architect in-training Georgemma Hunt. Specialising in murals and large canvas paintings, Hunt has supported Aquilina to build upon her painting skills, to create imaginary scenes and narratives and to consider the ‘finishing touches’.
